Everyone loves a bad boy! What's even better is when that bad boy also happens to be a Thai boxer, fitness competitor, model, has a heart of gold and covered with eye catching tattoos. I first became aware of Charlie Garforth when I started seeing his pictures pop up all over Twitter. It's an absolute joy to be kicking off my new Pillow Talk interview series with Charlie. In this interview, we discuss guilty pleasures, pet peeves, relationships, sex and so many other fun topics. Enjoy!
1. What song is your guilty pleasure?
Charlie: The Pixies - Where Is My Mind. Christina Perri, Jar Of Hearts, Freddie Mercury,
2. If you had to appear on a reality show, which would you be on?
Charlie: Come Dine with Me, cos it would need to involve food. Or Gladiators. Actually definitely
Gladiators.
3. What TV show would people be shocked to know that you watch?
Charlie: Question Time & This week, anything political.
4. Biggest pet peeve?
Charlie: I’m pretty easy going, but the things which annoy me are mostly food related. Like people who question minuscule amounts of chemicals which have been proven to be safe because of a conspiracy theory. But then smash junk food & booze. I’m all for junk food at times but be consistent. Or any pyramid selling scheme which pimps pills or potions when all people need is education about nutrition and a bit of will power. I’d best reign this in or it will turn into a full blown rant contradicting my easy going start to this answer haha.
5. Has your work as a fitness model landed you a lot of dates?
Charlie: Lots of opportunities, but they are either the wrong type of person or too far away. I think it
creates an unrealistic expectation of me too. I’m not the party boy the tattoos and muscles might represent to some people any more.
6. How do you like to spend a rainy day?
Charlie: A rainy day won’t stop my plans. If I’m going to the gym, I’m still going to the gym. If I’m going out walking, I’m still going out walking. Yesterday we walked up and along Sutton bank as is our family Easter tradition. We’ve done it in rain, snow, sun and yesterday in hail the size of marbles. Anyone following me on snapchat (@charliegarforth) will have seen me trying to catch footage of the lightening, but being too slow on the draw ha!
7. Dream vacation destination?
Charlie: When I was Thai boxing, I went over to Thailand and lived, trained and fought out there. It’s the Mecca of Thai boxing. I’d love to go back, but while lifting weights is my passion perhaps I should go to Muscle Beach, Santa Monica and hit up Golds Gym.
8. What's on your night stand?
Charlie: I don’t like clutter, so a lamp, an alarm clock and always a book. At the moment I’m reading Black Box Thinking by Mathew Syed, It’s always non fiction.
9. How would you describe your first kiss?
Charlie: When I grew up, your first kiss always involved a game of Spin the Bottle. Do the kids still play that game or does nobody know what that means?
10. First thing you notice about someone on a first date?
Charlie: If they are a positive person or a negative person. I try to stick to positive people in life
generally.
11. Relationship deal-breaker?
Charlie: Other than the positive thing. In future, it will probably be, being able to cook. And they’ll
need to be pretty energetic ;)
12. In a relationship, do you get jealous easily?
Charlie: If I’m made to feel secure, then no not at all. I’ve been in relationships where people have made me feel very secure and I don’t get jealous at all. I’ve also been made to feel insecure and then it’s only natural to feel jealous. I wouldn’t hang around long in that situation now that I’m older and wiser and would hopefully recognise that as destructive behaviour.
13. Boxers or briefs?
Charlie: Definitely briefs, wouldn’t want any loose material under my jeans.
14. Blonde or brunette?
Charlie: I’ve always said brunette, but ended up with blondes. So I guess it’s not a deal breaker.
15. What was your first tattoo and when did you get it?
Charlie: I was 16 and it was a Celtic band around my ankle. I saw it as a safe place to test the water and see if I liked it. Back then it wasn’t as common as it is now. About a year or two later, I progressed to a band around my arm. This is now covered with another design.
16. Do you prefer to make the first move?
Charlie: I never really make the first move. I guess I’m afraid of rejection. So someone has to make the first move, but after that it needs to progress mutually. I don’t like people to push too hard and I don’t want to chase haha.
17. Which is the most sensual of the five senses to you?
Charlie: Touch, and then taste ;)
18. What's your idea of the perfect date?
Charlie: A nice meal with a bottle of wine. Followed by another bottle of wine in a quiet pub. Followed by another bottle of wine taken out to drink at home...which gets as far as a couple of sips, before we are distracted ;) ha
19. What’s your idea of good foreplay?
Charlie: Is there bad foreplay? I’ve never really thought about it, but I guess I think it’s got the wrong name. The word foreplay implies that it’s only done at the beginning. The activities people would label as foreplay are fun, so should be returned to and there shouldn’t be an order to sex hahaha!
20. Now that you're gaining a lot of attention as a model, what's been your funniest fan interaction?
Charlie: The most rewarding interaction is when I’m recognised as a competitive athlete in gyms etc. I don’t really see myself as having fans. I’ve only been doing this a short period of time and am just a normal guy. But I’ve been getting some pretty strange requests and it’s skyrocketed recently. Very early on someone was pestering me for pictures of my feet. So I sent this.
21. You've done some very steamy photo shoots, can we expect to ever see you bare it all?
Charlie: I’ve got some more implied nude ones, which a friend pointed out are not implied at all. They are butt nude haha, but hiding privates ha. So I’ll post them at some point. Watch this space.
